Not a bad haunt, but nothing compared to Brutal Planet, the Elitch’s haunt of years past. There were definite highlights. The seance, the never ending hole and the forest were seriously cool, with great details, unusual props and innovative designs. There was a chick in the forest who looked like a bug/spider woman (or maybe those invisible horses in Harry Potter) and she was both creepy looking and acting.

This haunt had some nifty gory body parts piled in corners that I really liked, but it also had a lot of dead spaces that felt unfinished and took you out of the scare. Some rooms just felt blah.

True to Elitch reputation they busted out some impressive bungee work and on a few occasions actors came flying at you from places you’d never expect. They got a couple genuine screams out of me for that!

Overall this haunt was a mixed bag. Highlights and lowlights abound. Like its sister haunt at Elitchs its good, but not great. I’d recommend it most for first time haunt goers and families, plus you get to ride rides while you’re there and who doesn’t love that kind of scare?!

Located at Elitch Gardens, The Suffering is a haunt that allows us to dip into some of our old childhood fears and face them in a new light. While not over the top with its scares and gore there are some scenes that would not be appropriate for young children.

When I first went inside I was impressed with the “Bloody Mary” ritual in front of the mirror that our group participated in. Once the ritual was underway, the ending to the scene was a bit less enthusiastic than I had hoped for, but still worth seeing.

Acting was marginal for the most part, although there were a couple of actors that were on their game. The guy on the bungee was over the top, literally, and managed to get us twice several minutes apart. The girl in the face room did a pretty good job of giving us a small jolt, although I would have enjoyed hearing something other than a scream coming from her. My favorite was the girl in the strobe room with a sledgehammer. At first glance this didn’t appear creepy, but stop, and really watch her, you’ll get goose bumps.

Several rooms had merit that should be mentioned here, among them the forest room with the living tree. While it was executed fairly well, I would have loved to have seen a play on the forest scene from Wizard of Oz in here but it didn’t happen.
The wooden shaft was a great illusion and I took the time to really stare into it and get the full effect. I was a bit disappointed that this wasn’t utilized a bit more as it was a great effect that left me feeling unsure about the stability of the floor I was walking on.
This haunt had some interesting factors that delivered small jolts, but I never felt truly scared at any point. If you are very squeamish and scare easily this could be the perfect haunt for you.

As being my first full haunted house and I’m only 13, I was not impressed. There were a few things that were excellent but they didn’t use them that much. The first room has you deal with your childhood fears by chanting Bloody Mary into a mirror 3 times, I thought that was really impressive and it set the bar up really high for me. As you proceed your in a forest and they use a vibrating floor and I found it really strange but awesome to walk over it at the same time. As you go on you find a endless shaft in the floor that looked amazing and I stepped over it because I didn’t want to fall through! The rest of my team and I were staring at it because it had such amazing detail but that sad thing is it was only in 1 square; they should have made it the entire hallway!

The actors did not say much besides “Get Out”, “Grrr”, Scream, and Yell. There was 1 actor that really stood out, and that was the one with the bungee cords. He scared me the first time on the floor and then he flew up on the ceiling and scared me again! There were some spots were a picture frame fell down and there was no actor there to scare you, that really ruined it but they did that scare tactic so much I didn’t really care. There was also a actor in the jungle area who was covered in moss and I saw him walking behind but he didn’t try to scare anybody!

The set was not very good, as you look up you can see the top of the theater that this haunt is located in and it really ruins everything especially when your in the jungle themed area, and being in a theater it was a bit short. You can also tell that they put it together in only a week, some of the walls were not connected right and there wasn’t really much detail at all. I and my critic beside me got scared and I jolted a little into a wall and we almost pushed it over. There was a definite lack of fog and strobe lights also, so no disorientation in this haunt. Some of the lighting did not work also, I could see there was something coming out from the walls but I couldn’t see what it was so I needed to take out my cell phone and look. But the use of transparent mirrors was incredible. Also one of the props was a pile of just body parts that had some incredible detail but it was just sitting in a open room with no other detail in it. I took this haunt as a glimpse into Bloody Mary’s world but I was not sure so you will have to find out for yourself.

Overall, If you’re a hardcore haunt lover it is not worth the money if you don’t have a pass. If you have young ones bring them here and they will enjoy it if you don’t mind them seeing the occasional blood and gore.
