Troop 88 is back again with a new location, new sets and new scares to offer and they have come ready to play! I have to say that I was impressed last year with the house they put together and this year they have raised the bar for themselves.
A new location with plenty of windows gave way to some great creativity that I haven’t seen anywhere else. Make sure you stop to really look at the windows as you’re heading in or you’ll miss a great idea.
Once inside, the ticket and queue area looks a bit sparse, but what it may lack in décor it makes up for in screams, bangs and scares. Actors slinking like serpents across the floors in the dark area do an amazing job of sneaking up on people.
Upon entering the haunt I was pleased to see that some of the amazing props from last year were back and used in new and exciting scenes. There were props that allowed actors to literally blend into them and they couldn’t be seen until it was too late.
New walls added authenticity and a better suspension of disbelief in nearly all of the areas and the crypt/cemetery scenes were remarkable! I was very impressed with the details here.
Acting, while not over the top, was successful. There were areas that I only heard a “Grrrr” or a yell, but remember, the actors here are predominantly young kids and for their age they are doing a great job! Some of these kids could rival older actors that have years of experience. The entire haunt is saturated in actors and props that look like actors. This at times was a bit overdone, but when used in moderation worked very well. Hall after hall, turning corner after corner, I never was quite sure what was real and what was a prop. One kid in particular got under my skin. He had a skeletal face and was all in black and while not very tall, what he lacked in height he made up for in creepiness. He followed me for at least 5 full minutes. He looked as though he were gliding just above the floor the way he moved and he was just silent and menacing. Every time I looked behind me, there he was, silent, head slightly cocked to one side, contemplating me. Very, very eerie.
Skeletons, coffins, knights in armor and a vast array of creatures came together to make this haunt a real treat to see. The end of the haunt was terrific and there is no way I can tell you without giving it away.
Not overly scary, this is a good haunt to take the family to for some great fun and jumps!
