Wonderful atmosphere, length and sets are incredible. Some rooms really do allow the customer to step into the fantasy and become it. Very interactive, lot’s of choices to make about which way to go. Not too far to drive, worth the trip.
Truly a great haunt. The atmosphere outside the haunt is stellar, with a creepy old house that’s sure to be haunted, a menacing bog, funky old mining relics and a projector featuring old movies there’s plenty to look at while you wait in line.
And wait in line you will during the weekends. There were already 20 people waiting in line for tickets when we got here an hour early on a Saturday! But I think this haunt was well worth it.
The sets really make you feel at times like you’re descending into a mine shaft. There is a lot of gravel and small claustrophobic spaces. There are also a few spots where you can choose which path to take, from crawling to climbing and even taking a slide!
Haunted Mines had a bunch of really surprising scares and some cool use of moving parts that got you really involved in what was happening. There were some rooms that didn’t seem mine-like, but it was definitely a lot of fun. If you’re in the area, check it out!
If you’re looking for a haunt down south that really delivers then this is the one for you! Located at the Mining Museum, The Haunted Mines has a fantastic set design that is very interactive and ever changing. Some of the changes did cause the haunt to stray from theme at times and some scenes didn’t tie in to the rest of the haunt at all, but they do such a great job with their set design it doesn’t seem to affect the overall experience.
While going through the haunt, I was fascinated by the elaborate sets like the cemetery and the mausoleum. The doors on one crypt, with its large wooden handles and red crosses were incredible and really have to be seen to be believed.
The set design overall is very well done and the seemingly endless mine shafts offer twists, turns, slides and lot’s of choices about which way to go. The first time I encountered a fork in the haunt with a sign letting me know what lies in each direction was a bit of a shock. I have never seen this in a haunt before and it was great fun picking and choosing my fate as I went along.
While not as scary as I would personally prefer the entertainment level here is top notch and a good example of what a great haunt can be. Lighting is dim and effective and the majority of the actors do a good job of getting scares. There were a couple that merely screamed or yelled, but most of them had good lines.
The ending was interesting and creative however, it didn’t carry the same punch as previous endings and should be ramped up a bit to get the final jolt.
