This is the first time I’ve been to a haunted green house and it was pretty cool! They used a lot of strobes and small spaces, which are things I like in a haunted house.
As far as detail in sets go there certainly could have been a lot more. But this haunt does a good job utilizing the space they have and leveraging what they’ve got. Weed fabric, watering hoses, giant fans, boiler rooms and unique floor textures were used in unexpected ways and ultimately successful. This haunt got a few really good scares out of me, from the elevator shaft to the strange creatures lurking within inches of your face.
I particularly enjoyed the boiler room where you’re treated to a familiar and disturbing famous face. Overall this was a fun haunt. Definitely not the scariest or most elaborate in Colorado, but great fun for families and first time haunt goers!
When you build a haunt in a working greenhouse you get a unique experience that has not been seen here before, but is long overdue.
I was uncertain when I arrived at this haunt as to what I would find once inside, but I was pleasantly surprised and entertained. From the coffin shaped doorways to the details that were incorporated throughout, this haunt delivered scares and an eerie atmosphere that rivals some of its bigger competition.
Although this haunt is only in its second year, they have designed an interesting layout that kept me feeling uneasy as I moved from scene to scene. Very narrow paths to walk on left me feeling boxed in, trapped and claustrophobic. I was constantly on the lookout for a way out in case I became trapped by some unearthly ghoul.
And there were plenty of ghouls to be had!! As I moved through I encountered such characters as Michael Meyers, Freddy Krueger and Jigsaw. I really enjoyed the sets that these characters were in. Michael Meyers hid in the most conspicuous place possible, but trust me, you won’t see him until it’s too late! Freddy Krueger is right at home in a real working boiler room which was creepy all by itself, and when Jigsaw stood at the end of a narrow, dimly lit path just looking at our group, I had reservations about walking through there.
Take your time going through so that you don’t miss any of the details that this haunt provides. Actors move about behind screened walls that hid them just enough to keep me from seeing exactly what was on the other side and that in and of itself cranked the eerie factor up considerably! Wilted plants, dried corn stalks, blackbirds and some very dark spaces make this worth slowing down for. One of my favorite scenes in the haunt was the wolf cage. I heard the wolves long before I saw them and the sound coming from the end of the path was unnerving and I felt the growling in my bones.
While this is not a gory haunt, the people at Crypts Garden have put a lot of effort into getting a scare out of even the toughest haunt enthusiast and it’s working for them. With such an exceptional location, this one can only get better and better!! If you want a unique haunt experience, don’t miss this one, it has a great combination of actors, sets and scares to keep your blood pumping!
