The facade of Blood Shed hints at the back woods terrors you’re about to experience and after you’ve taken you’re little trip through this hillbilly horror show you’ll never want to go down south again. Or will you?
I liked the idea behind this haunt. It’s clever name, kind of a funny pun for us seasoned haunt goers, hints at the gore you’ll see and the deranged characters you’ll meet. But it was so freaking dark it was hard to see ANYTHING. I could tell a lot of effort was put into some of the rooms, but others I couldn’t see to appreciate.
The living room was beautifully gross, but if it weren’t for the static spewing TV I probably wouldn’t have seen it. And the shack porch facade seemed incredibly detailed and really cool, but I was shuttled inside so quickly I hardly got a look at it. There’s also a kitchen in this haunt that is beyond foul. There were so many amazing details I had to lean in for a closer look. I was tempted to bust out my cell phone as a light source to really admire the hard work!
By far the coolest props in here were the decapitated heads. The ones that I could see in the darkness were just unnerving with their stomach churning realism. There seemed to be a good deal of dead space here. I’m not sure if the intention was to build anxiety and then surprise you with a good scare around the corner, but at times it felt a little boring.
Of the 2 haunts at this location this one is lacking a bit. But to be fair it’s the first year for this particular house and it’s definitely on par with most of the haunts in Denver, first year or not.
Oh and I think the 3.5 star rating up there is terribly low for this haunt. They’re definitely above average and I would give a 7 for sure.
Blood Shed, a new haunt this season lends itself to some backwoods terror that is sure to get you wondering what you may encounter next. While it did lose a bit of the theme, there were some good scenes that helped keep my attention focused on the gore and dark and not the fact that the theme had strayed a bit.
After I went inside the deranged hillbilly’s house I found myself in the desolate living room and one of the strangest characters I’ve seen in a while was watching nothing on the TV. He reminded me of Raggedy Ann in a freaky way and this gave some credibility to the scene.
Working my way through there were a lot of dark areas, which for me is a big plus. Being in the dark allows a person to open up their mind to the horrors that may lurk there. While the dark was a high point for me, I was hoping that there would be a few more scares in there.
Costuming and acting were both good and some of the makeup and masks were outstanding!
This is an average length haunt with enough gore to keep your stomach churning a bit, and enough darkness to keep you wondering what’s coming next.
